As a supervisor/manager, the selectee for this position will be eligible to receive a Manager Performance Incentive (MPI) provided eligibility requirements noted in agency policy are met. The MPI is an annual lump-sum incentive payment that considers agency performance, the manager's individual performance, and available funding.Duty station is Greensboro, NC.This is not a 100% telework position. Situational telework may be available based on the needs of the Office.

Duties

The Front-Line Manager is responsible for aviation safety activities in a complex and dynamic environment. Manages and monitors individual and unit, group, or team performance standards with organizational initiatives, goals, and objectives by providing feedback, acknowledging achievement, and addressing performance deficiencies. Incumbent has full authority and responsibility to make all decisions and take action in the assigned program areas, subject to the manager's administrative review. Higher-level management reviews performance periodically by utilizing/reviewing work products, status reports, and organizational measures in place to ensure timeliness, policy compliance, and overall alignment with the Flight Standards Service.

• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

• Position is designated as Moderate Risk; a background investigation may be required.
• A one year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Aviation Safety Inspector positions have job related medical requirements. When applicable, applicants must meet job related medical requirements which will be assessed and validated during the pre-employment process.Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without strain, printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted);2. Individuals who do not meet the minimum medical requirements but who are otherwise qualified will receive an individualized assessment to determine whether they can perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.When the predominant work involves general aviation maintenance, applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) positions must meet all of the following requirements.Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.Maintenance experience with aircraft 12,500 pounds or less maximum certificated takeoff weight.Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state or Federal governmental agency.Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.ORWhen the predominant work involves air carrier maintenance, applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) positions must meet all of the following requirements.Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight maintained under an airworthiness maintenance and inspection program.Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state, or Federal governmental agency.Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.In addition to the above minimum qualifications, to qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I, FG/GS-13 grade level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.Specialized experience is defined as: Experience monitoring and evaluating training programs for compliance with regulations and standards; experience performing investigations and recommending solutions; and experience developing new or modifying existing policies and procedures.Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.Please ensure you answer all questions and follow all instructions carefully.
