About the Position: This Optometrist is located at Defense Health Agency, Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport, Dir of Medicine. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.

Duties

Utilize specific examinations and instruments to determine an individual's functional vision and specific visual abilities relating to acuity, depth perception, visual fields, contrast sensitivity, and color perception. Conduct comprehensive examinations and visual analyses to service members and eligible personnel, corrects visual anomalies, and improves functional inefficiencies by the use of lenses, prisms, or other ophthalmic devices. Determine the accommodative, refractive and binocular status of the eyes, and scope of visual function in general to determine the proper applications of lenses to accommodate. Perform duties in the area of behavioral and developmental optometry with responsibility to assess the performance of vision and how vision integrates with all of the other senses.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.

Basic Requirement for Optometrist: Degree: A Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have received a passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience: One year of specialized experience as an optometrist which includes examining and treating patients with visual disorders and/or diseases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). OR Residency: One year completion of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training.
