This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

Major duties may include, but are not limited to: Clinical Duties (70%): 1) Incumbent completes evaluation and treatment in a timely fashion; chart review will allow the incumbent an opportunity to assess appropriateness of the referral and possible contraindications for treatment. Consults are scheduled considering priority and frequency of care, and coordination of schedules with other members of the treatment team. Flexibility of schedule must be maintained to allow for unscheduled patients and for mentoring and consultation. adapted because of multiple physical and emotional disabilities or present conditions. 2) Incumbent utilizes evaluation data to plan and implement comprehensive patient treatment programs, immediately involving the patient in goal setting and treatment processes as feasible. Incumbent modifies treatment plan according to evaluative findings on an ongoing basis to meet short and long-term occupational therapy goals. 3) Incumbent communicates readily with the multidisciplinary team, advising the ream of the patient's needs and progress, exchanging discharge planning information with them. This communication occurs through team meetings, written reports, and informal communication, such as personal and telephone conversations. Written communication is accomplished in a timely fashion. 4) Incumbent functions as a mentor and provides specific instruction as well as training to students and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Incumbent also provides instruction to patient and family in these areas as appropriate to their roles and level of understanding. 5) Incumbent works with a high degree of independence, exercising independent professional judgment in planning and carrying out treatment programs to meet complex treatment objectives. Incumbent exercises originality in solving problems not covered by these guides, making adaptations, and modifications of treatment plans and procedures without supervisory guidance, to meet the complex and highly varying needs of the patient, and advises all other hear care team members and students in this regard for patients with complex conditions. 6) Incumbent develops and coordinates treatment and/or educational programs within a concentrated field or specialty area, such as, but not limited to, amputee, spinal cord injury, student clinical education/residency programming, and polytrauma/traumatic brain injury. 7) Incumbent will have an active relationship with the hospitalists, mid-levels, and nursing staff which may include open communication via phone and/or participation in clinic and case discussions as appropriate. Referral Coordinator (25%): 1) Incumbent will serve as a consultant to the facility rehabilitation team regarding community care GEC processes to include but not limited to using the appropriate facility templates for extension of services, procurement of medically necessary DME, and placing consults to the appropriate service lines to prevent delay in care. 2) Incumbent will actively participate in program development and/or process improvements relevant to the referral program to improve efficiency and quality of care provided to patient. 3) Incumbent will serve as a point of contact providing guidance to PM&R and facility leadership on matters related to Inpatient/GEC Community Care referrals. 4) Incumbent will independently review GEC community care consults and answer them in a timely manner. They will complete a thorough chart review in CPRS as well as review outside facility notes to determine if a patient would benefit from initiation or extension of OT services. 5) Incumbent contributes to learning opportunities at the local level via conference planning, presentations at conferences, knowledge sharing, and consultation. Administrative Duties (5%): 1) Incumbent maintains accurate records, attendance, progress, and final disposition and submits necessary monthly and quarterly information in a timely and accurate manner. 2) Incumbent is responsible for the care, upkeep, and sanitation of equipment used and may perform the regular duties of a higher-level therapist in their absence. 3) Incumbent monitors program operations for quality issues considering access to care, cost effective operations and a safe and healthy environment to promote maximum patient and staff welfare. (1) The individual must meet at least one of the following requirements below: (a) Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist; NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. or (b) Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field; NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. or (c) Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy. (2) Individuals must be a graduate of] a degree program in occupational therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizations. This is inclusive of an internship (supervised fieldwork experience required by the educational institution). ACOTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (c) Ability to articulate and communicate the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, and objectives; as well as provide direction on work methods, practices and procedures in administration and/or education methodologies. (d) Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work, evaluate the program to ensure that methods, deadlines and quality have been met, and ensure adjustments to the work process are in accordance with priorities. (e) Ability to develop and coordinate treatment and/or educational programs within a concentrated field or specialty area, such as amputee, spinal cord injury, chronic pain, student clinical education/residency programming, polytrauma/traumatic or brain injury. (f) Ability to effectively motivate and manage a diverse clinical staff with widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view.
