Duties

Major Duties include: Developing and managing internal and external strategic communications projects, including producing press releases, producing and implementing communications plans, and conducting media interviews. Representing the park in official and public meetings. Advising staff on public affairs matters. Managing the park's Freedom of Information Program. Preparing correspondence for leadership and supporting the park's digital and visual media platforms, including the park website, social media and print products, such as brochures and fact sheets.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience for this position include but are not limited to: developing and managing projects for at least one of the following; print and digital media program, which includes brochures, flyers, newspapers, fact sheets, web pages, social media posts, news releases or videos and/or strategic themes to news media and the general public; and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with partners; and/or managing contracts and/or agreements related to communications projects. You must include hours per week worked on your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position, which demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to do the work of this position. Directly related graduate study may include, but is not limited to government, business administration, journalism, mass communications, public administration, graphic design, and broadcasting. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, six months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of directly related graduate level education in an accredited education institution (50% of the qualifying education) may be a qualifying combination. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
