About the Position: This position is located at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 2 Years,if the candidate is not a current permanent Defense Health Agency employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of eight years and may be made permanent without further competition.

Duties
Direct, develop, and conduct education programs for the Commander, hospital personnel, patients and families, and outside organizations.
Maintain and expand professional expertise through attendance at professional conferences and seminars.
Formulate, revise, evaluate, and monitor compliance to the hospital infection prevention and control policies and procedures, ensuring requirements for accreditation are met.
Ensure plans for the care/isolation of patients concerned with infectious disease are adequate.
Advise Hospital Contract Services on contractual agreements in the area of infection prevention and control policies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a favorable personnel background investigation.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- Must have and maintain an active current, unrestricted license as a registered professional nurse in a state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Must be able to successfully complete the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) basic course in Infection Control within the first six months of employment.
- A pre-appointment physical examination is required to include lifting 20lbs.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain/maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification that is sponsored/endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advance Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position requires a Child Care Background Check Required. Since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Infection Control):
Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes implementing infection control programs, evaluating infection control data, and educating patients. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)
