Assistant United States Attorneys prosecute all criminal and civil cases brought by the Federal government and defend the United States in civil cases. This position is located in Springfield, MA

Duties

AUSAs in this district improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents by prosecuting crimes that include terrorism, violent crimes, narcotics trafficking, fraud and other white-collar offenses, civil rights offenses, human trafficking, political corruption, organized crime and an array of other federal criminal laws. The office also enforces federal civil rights laws, safeguards federal programs such as Medicare and Medicaid through civil actions and defends the United States in federal court.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
  • Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least three years post-J.D. legal experience. Preferred Qualifications: Five years of experience prosecuting criminal matters at the federal or state level or handling complex litigation matters, superior academic credentials, and a record that demonstrates integrity and initiative. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
