DCSA is seeking a historian to perform as the agency archivist conducting historical research and documenting the agency's historical activities/achievements, incorporating information from internal and external sources to create comprehensive, interpretative history products and reports. You will also establish an oral history program to capture first and perspectives on key milestones and initiatives, by capturing and maintaining memorabilia and key documents.
Duties
As a HISTORIAN you will be responsible for the following duties:
Performs historical research of broad scope and complexity, exercising sound critical judgment and authoritativeness in accordance with DoD policies and practices and precedence of the field history.
- Conduct research and documents agency historical activities/achievements, incorporating information from internal and external sources to create comprehensive, interpretative and objective written submissions.
- Prepares agency and general history products and reports for final publication.
- Plans and manages the agency's oral history program under the direction of the Chief, OCCA.
- Prepares annual histories, historical monographs, special studies, and articles for agency internal and external publications by performing research on specific topics as directed.
Manages the command history archives, including organizing historical files and records covering the agency from inception as the Defense Investigative Service through current era.

Qualifications
This position has a Basic Requirement for the 0170:
Degree: History; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade GG/GS 12 in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility.
Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes: experience applying the academic principles of history; Experience applying a wide range of research and archival methods, principles, and practices common in the field of historical preservation, research, and writing; Skills in designing, planning, and completing difficult and complex, but well-precedented projects. Must have highly effective skills in written and oral communications to author historical documents and create and present accurate academic and informative briefings to a wide array of audiences.

5. History and Archaeology: Knowledge of historical events and their causes, indicators, and impact on particular civilization and cultures, and of preservation and archival techniques.
PhD preferred but not required.
