About the Position: This position is located at Andrews AFB, Maryland.
Duties
Implements local policies and oversees, audits and complies with all Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) privacy related issues.
Serves as the local HIPAA/FOIA subject matter expert for the investigating officer.
Develops local policies and procedures as needed from Department of Defense (DoD) and Defense Health Agency (DHA) HIPAA/FOIA privacy requirements.
Monitors all health-related agreements with other similar internal DHA organizations to ensure that all privacy concerns, requirements and responsibilities are addressed.
Prepares detailed reports/responses for each occurrence and provides a recommendation for corrective actions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirement for HIPAA Compliance Specialist, GS-0301-09
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in monitoring compliance with Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in cybersecurity, health, or finance, or other fields related to the position to be filled.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
