Joining the Secret Service, Office of Professional Responsibility will allow you to review and investigate the actions of United States Secret Service personnel, programs, and offices to determine compliance with and adherence to internal policies, procedures, and protocols.
Duties
The selectee will serve as a Data Scientist (Insider Threat) in the Office of Professional Responsibility, Insider Threat Program (ITP). Typical work assignments include:
Performing a wide variety of assignments to support analytical and operational activities of the Insider Threat Program including assembling, correlating, evaluating and assessing information.
Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of data science projects, models, and operations to ensure that analytical performance measures are met and conducting observational analyses using software such as: R, Python, SAS, SPSS, STATA, Tableau, PowerBI or similar.
Using appropriate analytic and statistical software to programmatically prepare data from varying sources and formats of different qualities for analysis, visualizations, cleaning of data sets, and/or compilation into electronic records.
Preparing written narratives, briefings, and statistical reports related to analytical findings, program management, and methodologies for policymakers and stakeholders.
Applying analytical methods to test hypotheses, assess relationships, and solve mission-focused policy, methodological, or administrative problems.
Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Specialized Experience for this poaition.
Basic Requirement:
You have a degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position (The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position).
-OR-
You have a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must also meet the following specialized experience.
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $117,962.00) if you possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
Making recommendations on security systems designed to protect personnel, equipment and facilities based on trend analysis data collected over a period of time;
Utilizing knowledge of data gathering methods to assist with assessing various areas of insider threats;
Normalizing data to conduct analysis and evaluations based on the correlation of information; and
Working with statistical software such as R, Python, Tableau or Power BI to assist with trend analysis and graphing for reports.
