This position is a Park Ranger, GS-0025-7 working in Oceanville, NJ for the R5-Edwin B Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. This is a term position expected to last 13 months but may be extended up to a total of 4 years at management's discretion.

Duties

As a Park Ranger your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers and interns in duties including staffing a visitor center, conducting interpretation/education programs, and fee collection. Draft a variety of written materials including news releases, articles, correspondence, event flyers, social media and website content. Develop and present a variety of mission-based interactive educational programs including orientation talks, conducted walks, and demonstrations to a variety of groups. Conduct visitor services planning, scheduling and implementation for programs such as volunteer programs, visitor centers, educational programs, and events.

Qualifications

Only experience and education obtained by 07/09/2024 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification. Minimum Qualification GS-7 1. One year of specialized experience that was equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Examples of this type of experience may include: (1) developing and presenting interpretive programs; (2) preparing and conducting environmental education programs; (3) assisting with the training of volunteers and interns in a natural resources setting; (4) assisting with the management of recreation opportunities such as hunting, fishing, and hiking; (5) and assisting with the development of interpretive materials, such as brochures, handouts, social media posts, and exhibits. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient detail of this level of work, i.e., complete begin/end dates, hours worked per week, duties performed, etc. for each timeframe for consideration. OR 2. One full academic year of graduate level education leading to a Masters degree or equivalent degree with the major study in courses related to the duties of this position. Examples of this type of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. NOTE: Transcripts required. OR 3. A combination of specialized experience as described in response A above and education as described in response B above. (Determine the percentage of qualifying specialized experience you possess and determine the percentage of qualifying education you possess. Add the two percentages together. The total percentage must equal at least 100% in order to qualify based on a combination of experience and education). NOTE: Transcripts required. Your resume must contain sufficient information, e.g., complete begin/end dates, work schedule, duties performed, etc., for each period of work for consideration to meet this standard. OR 4. Completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree and possess Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). I meet one of the following: (1) 3.0 average (on a scale of 4.0) based on the average of all completed college courses at the time of application or courses completed during the final 2 years of undergraduate curriculum OR (2) 3.5 average or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of all completed college courses at the time of application or course completed during the final 2 years of undergraduate curriculum OR (3) elected to a national scholastic honor society. If qualifying for SAA based on grade point average no more than 10% of course work may be graded on a pass/fail or non-traditional grade basis. NOTE: Transcripts required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education.
