Duties

This position is located in Louisville, Kentucky. If selected for this position, you will serve as an Information Technology Specialist providing a variety of technical and advisory assistance to support the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of Kentucky. This will include a wide range of information technology support duties to meet the USAO information needs using network hardware and software capabilities. At the full performance level, typical work assignments will include (but are not limited to): Providing IT customer service and support in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; Providing user training and assistance on a variety of routine applications and specialized applications used by the office; Assisting in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems using knowledge of network standards and protocols, and knowledge of the capabilities and applications of network equipment including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware; Properly maintaining and controlling assigned telecommunications systems using knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control and operation of telecommunications systems; Using knowledge of systems security principles and methods to participate in testing and implementation of the district's information security program; Monitoring compliance and maintaining assigned information systems security procedures in accordance with internal, agency, and Federal information security regulations and policies; and Performing assigned segments of the district's content management plan. Responding to customer comments regarding broken links/files, and repairs errors. Carrying out server maintenance functions using basic Internet server maintenance techniques. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

Qualifications

Salary Ranges are based on Special Rate Pay Tables and contain multiple grades and steps. In most cases, the salary will be set at the starting point of the range for the grade level qualified. All individual applicants must demonstrate they have experience in each of the four competencies listed below; the experience does not have to be IT-related. Experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, certification), as appropriate. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. GS-5: Additionally, to be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to the GS-4 level in Federal service as defined below; OR a bachelor's degree in any field. General Experience (for GS-5): Three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4, that demonstrates the ability to: Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; Plan and organize work; and Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Such experience may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative or other work. Experience in substantive relevant secretarial, clerical, or other work may be qualifying as long as it provided evidence of particular qualifications necessary to perform duties of position to be filled. Experience of general clerical nature typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks is not creditable. Education: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in any field. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must demonstrate you have experience in each of the four competencies listed above (Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication and Problem Solving); AND have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service as defined below; OR 1 full year of Graduate Education OR superior academic achievement. Education must demonstrate the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (See Education section below for detailed information on Superior Academic Achievement.), Specialized experience (for GS-7): Positions at GS-7 require one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level. Examples include: performing entry-level work assignments associated with the day-to-day operation and administration of IT systems; installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software; providing user training on routine hardware, software, and internet applications; maintaining and controlling equipment inventories; and maintaining IT systems documentation. Education: One full year of graduate level education. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position; OR Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A). To qualify based on S.A.A., you must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree (or expect to complete the requirements for a bachelor's degree within 9 months) from an accredited institution AND meet the criteria/requirements for S.A.A. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
