This position is located in Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, in the Interpretation, Education, and Visitor Experience Division. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Duties

Develop and manage the park's interpretive media portfolio, which will include web pages, the National Park Service app, virtual tours, videos, audio files, photographs, waysides, exhibits, program props, signs, and publications. Work closely with management teams, resource experts, and partners to identify and develop interpretive media that convey important interpretive themes and visitor safety and orientation information. Work with the Interpretation, Education, and Visitor Experience Manager to develop a long-term interpretive media plan and project proposals, and to seek out funding to allow projects to proceed. Convey critical resource topics and controversial issues with expert use of language, graphics, and other forms of media. Be a leader in championing new ways of communicating with visitors through interpretive media.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/08/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Visual Information Specialist. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: digital media includes: planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: using a variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual communication products; using visual materials incorporated into a visual communication product such as photographs, illustrations, charts, or maps to be reproduced as part of an exhibit, publication, illustration, or digital media; preparing layouts of pages, two-dimensional exhibit panels, or presentation materials; and/or working with computer graphic designs for use in exhibits, publications, illustrations, or digital media for presentation of information. OR A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., with major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position (you must include transcripts). OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). To combine education and experience, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level (you must include transcripts). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
