About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain half way between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off of Interstate 20. The depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 5000 employees.
Duties
Performs the complete rebuild and/or repair of one major system of combat vehicles such as engines, transmissions, or fuel and electrical.
Disassembles items, cleans parts with approved solvents and gages parts to determine their serviceability.
Performs testing and makes adjustment to correct deficiencies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc, must satisfactorily complete and pass the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common repairs, rebuilds, overhauls, and modifications to combat and tactical vehicles according to proper procedures and specifications; testing and making adjustments to correct deficiencies. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Physical Effort: Work involves standing, bending, reaching, stretching, crouching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated; is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
