This position is located at the Puerto Rico National Cemetery in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Duties

Accomplishes full range of building and maintenance trades. Repairs and maintains physical structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools. Includes water lines, sewage lines, road and curbs, bench installations and guard rails. Repairs or replaces electrical fixtures, switches, and installs wiring. Plasters and performs a variety of masonry repairs. Cuts and installs glass in windows and performs other glazing work. Builds repairs and installs shelves, cabinets, partitions, floors, doors, grave covers, and framework. Builds and installs shades, blinds, and tile. ls responsible for preparing surfaces for applying primer and finish coats. Paint interiors and exteriors of building and both mobile and stationary equipment using brush, roller, or spray gun on a variety of surfaces. works with gloss, semi-gloss and special paints, enamels, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and shellacs. Assist with plumbing tasks. Reads and examines drawings to determine sizes and dimensions from blueprints. Maintains the inventory of stock necessary for emergency repairs. Performs routine minor maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems. Will be required to operate various equipment assigned to the cemetery for operation during emergency situations. May be required to perform duties at all levels below the job rating for this position. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/05/2024. Your background must demonstrate work involved in the full range of building and maintenance trades to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, pest control, asphalt repairs, etc. This includes repair and preventive maintenance of irrigation systems, maintaining and repairing buildings and physical structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate effort in maneuvering vehicles and in hooking up equipment attachments to tractors. Frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, and pushing of wheelbarrows is also required in performing gardening work. Position requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and pulling. Climbs ladders and lifts objects weighing over (50) pounds. He/she must have a full range of upper and lower extremities. Moderate effort required in operating vehicle and tools of the trade. Stamina, dexterity, and perseverance required in all aspects of incumbent duties. Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Incumbent is subject to discomfort from working in unnatural positions for long periods in all types of weather. He/she must work under stress and strain, in dust, dirt, mud, snow and water. Incumbent may be exposed to occupational injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, and dust from sawing materials, other potential hazards, working with machinery, saws and electrical equipment while performing duties in this position. Working Conditions: Work must be performed outdoors, and incumbent will be exposed to all types of weather throughout the year. Incumbent will be exposed to the sun, noise, extreme hear, and humidity, cold, snow, rain, wind, and is subject to dirt, dust, fumes (from motor and exhaust) mud, and water. Work is performed in areas where pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers are applied. Appropriate protective equipment will be worn. The operator is exposed to injury from mishaps that may be involved in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
