This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Academy, Mission Support Division, Logistics Branch, New London, CT.

Duties

You will perform the accounting, supply and purchasing management services in support of the Coast Guard Uniform Program.  You will be responsible for the day to day and special circumstance purchase and supply of uniform items required by the Corps of Cadets, Officer Candidate accession programs, active duty, reserve, retiree, and auxiliary members.   Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.   • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service OR 4 years of education above high school. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: Performing the examination, verification, and maintenance of accounts and accounting data; performing technical audit functions; classifying accounting transactions, maintaining and reconciling accounts; closing accounts and preparing reports and statements; analyzing accounting data; and examining accounts; classifying accounting transactions that include verifying the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data; determining the general ledger accounts, journals, and subsidiary accounts affected and the debit and credit entries to be made; and summarizing transactions and preparing control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made; maintaining accounts by reviewing documents to verify accounting data as necessary, entering data into the system, and taking a trial balance; reconciling accounts comparing account balances with related data to assure agreement; reviewing records and source documents to identify the sources of discrepancies; and determining the entries required to bring the account into balance. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
