About the Position: This is a permanent Historian position with US Army Central located on Shaw AFB, SC.
Duties
Establishes and executes the Command Historical Program IAW AR 870-5, to include the production of monographs, doctrinal and special studies, histories, documentary collections, oral history interviews, and studies on topics and events.
Establishes and effectively maintains a wide range of personal contacts with Chief of Military History, senior officials of the National Archives and Records Administration, Federal Records Centers, the Library of Congress.
Prepares, conducts, and preserves oral history interviews with the Commander and key military and civilian staff officers, including End-of-Tour interviews and other interviews as appropriate or directed.
In the course of research, identifies all documents of permanent historical significance and ensures that copies are part of the permanent USARCENT history files.

Basic Requirement for Historian:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Experience providing historical research, planning, collecting, evaluating and analyzing historical facts, (2) preparing presentations and briefings, and representing organization at meetings and conferences. (3) Managing the maintenance of a historical program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
