A successful candidate in this position will serve as a paralegal specialist in the Manager's Office at the Livermore Field Office, performing a variety of administrative functions to facilitate mission activities. Performs substantive legal analysis of requests for information under the provisions of applicable statutes; conducts research for preparation of legal opinions on matters of interest; provide support in oversight of contractor litigation and in connection with the ethics program.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-01 or GS-07 level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: performing paralegal or legal work which demonstrates a basic knowledge of legal research and ability to interpret legal decisions. Examples of Specialized Experience: Experience examining and processing a variety of legal documents. Experience conducting research, analysis and evaluation of data in response to complex or sensitive requests. Experience drafting briefs, pleadings, litigation recommendations, or other legal documents and correspondence. Experience searching and reviewing legal references, case files, and other sources for information and data required by attorneys or court personnel. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. If you are eligible for career transition assistance plans such as ICTAP or CTAP, you must meet the definition of "well qualified" which is defined as having a score of 85 or better. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Education

Paralegal Specialist Series 0950:

Master's or equivalent graduate degree or higher (in a related field; e.g., criminal justice, law, legal studies)
OR
J.D. or LL.B
OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in law, criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or a close related field that provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Paralegal Specialist.
