About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate of Clinical Support Services (DCSS) at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California. This position will serve as the Executive Assistant to the Director, Clinical Support Services.

Duties

Screen incoming correspondence to determine which material requires further action from Deputy Commander. Review correspondence for signatures, spelling, format, and typographical errors. Liaison between supervisor and subordinate staff within the department. Maintain time cards for civilian chiefs of special staff offices and their personnel. Receive visitors and phone calls to the office, ascertaining the nature of requests and directing callers to appropriate staff.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • The employee may be required to work overtime.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing routine administrative tasks including screening calls, visitors, and making travel arrangements and/or scheduling appointments. Utilize computer to prepare and review correspondence, reports and/or other documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as business or healthcare administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementManages and Organizes InformationOral CommunicationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
