About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, Alabama just off interstate 20. The depot is the largest Employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.
Duties
Receive and process hazardous and non-hazardous waste from the shops and place in appropriate designated storage containers for storage, disposal and shipment.
Input data into the Hazardous Material Management System (HMMS) for all waste collection containers.
Operate electrical or gasoline -powered mobile forklift trucks of several makes and models with a lifting capacity of 2000 to 6000 pounds and as high as 168 inches.
Operate tractor and semi-trailer unit motor vehicles capable of carrying loads of 5 tons or more and having a transmission of 5 forward speeds two driving wheels and two brake systems (air brakes).
Respond to emergency spills and participate in spill cleanup on the depot.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is required to complete a satisfactory pre-physical.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator License/Permit.
- Incumbent is required to complete a satisfactory drug test and participate in random drug testing program.
- This position has Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility responsibilities and requires successful completion of training IAW ANAD's RCRA permit.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Hazardous Waste Disposer ~ without more than normal supervision. Receive and process hazardous and non-hazardous waste and place in appropriate designated storage areas at the Hazardous Waste Storage Facility. Pick up and deliver waste containers with tow motor and roll off truck. Perform inventory of hazardous waste containers. Draw questionable samples from the container of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and take to the chemical lab for verification

Physical Efforts: Work requires reaching, bending, turning, and the moving of bands, arms, feet and legs to operate vehicle controls. There is frequent lifting or pushing items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional handling of items weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and exposes incumbent to weather extremes. There is exposure to noise, vibrations, and jolting from operated machinery. Incumbent is exposed to possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. There is the possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaking containers and may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.). Work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is exposed to all types of traffic where there is possibility of serious accidents. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accident or when loading or unloading vehicle.
