Duties

Performs installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles. Serves as the initial point of contact for the installation’s visitors. Grants access to persons, denies entry or arranges for escorts, as appropriate. Questions suspicious persons and warns or detains violators. Executes crowd control in situations that may become violent or unruly. Performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal. Provides authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures. Serves as a member of the installation’s overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents. Makes daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Secret security clearance.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment physical and maintain a level of physical fitness.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated as Mission Essential; in the event of severe weather conditions that result in the installation being closed for normal business operations, you are still required to report for or remain on duty.
  • The position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires shift work, rotating shifts and both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • This position has a requirement to carry a firearm and remain proficient in the use of assigned weapon.
  • This position requires certification in CPR.
  • This position requires the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position is subject to the requirements of the individual Reliability Program (IRP), in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position requires successful completion of security guard training.
  • May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • This position requires working both inside and outside, with possible exposure to inclement weather.
  • This position requires Security Response Capability Training for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • This position requires the employee to complete and pass a physical agility test on an annual basis.
  • This position requires that you wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56 and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes detection and prevention of theft, damage, and/or trespassing, performing vehicle searches, confiscating unauthorized items, directing traffic flow, verifying identification and controlling access to premises. Responsible for preserving the life, health and safety of government personnel and safeguarding property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
