About the Position: Serves as the Physical Security Specialist to the U.S. Army Central Command (USARCENT) staff and Provost Marshal; responsible for USARCENT physical security program development, execution, supervision, and evaluation.

Duties

Prepares written reports, briefs senior military and civilian managers on results and recommends corrective actions. Serves as the technical advisor for physical security matters for USARCENT. Serves as an inspector conducting formal and critical physical security inspections such as Risk Analysis's and Vulnerability Assessments IAW AR 190-51. Assists in the design of a comprehensive security systems involving adaptation of normally accepted security principles to meet the characteristics of USARCENT AOR.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance based upon a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Physical Security Certification (PSC) within their first two years of employment.
  • This position is designated as Emergency Essential.
  • This is a designated drug testing position.
  • This position requires overtime work, shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 50% of the time.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical exam.

Qualifications

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed 5 years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition. This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour. Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) developing security principles, methods, and practices for application to current security program processes; (2)conducting comprehensive physical security inspections and surveys of installations and facilities; and/or (3) developing and implementing policies, instructions, procedures, control systems, and methods for such functions and activities as: for theater-wide access control and electronic security systems to include long range plans to procure and maintain these systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Security Management or Criminal Justice. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications Security ManagementPhysical SecurityPlanning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
