Duties

You will serve as a Supervisory Attorney-Adviser, overseeing all activities of the Medical Care Recovery Unit (MCRU). the administration of the Medical Care Recovery Act and Third-Party Payers Act claims. You will initiate revisions and improvements to claims processing in response to statutory, regulatory, and/or mission adjustments. You will research and prepare point papers, memoranda, and other documents pertaining to claims policies and incidents related to any claims matter. You will draft responses to Congressional inquiries and prepare recommendations and/or requests for action to Department of Justice on MCRA matters. You will negotiate with attorneys, insurance adjusters, lien resolution administrators, and injured parties and liaise with other medical care recovery offices, U.S. Attorney Offices, Defense Health Agency, and medical treatment facilities. You will supervise and manage, including providing assistance to, and developing the abilities of administrative, paralegal, and claims personnel within the MCRU San Diego.

Qualifications

Your application must show that you meet the following: 1) You are a member in good standing of the bar of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States or sufficient proof that the same has been requested with the appropriate licensing authority. 2) You have a Juris Doctorate degree, or higher level law degree, from an American Bar Association accredited law school. 3) You possess at least three years of post-law-school experience performing the interpretation, analysis and application of general law and relevant federal statutes, directives, regulations, and procedures related to complex claims and the negotiation and settlement of large affirmative and Medical Care Recovery Act claims. 4) You possess at least five years of supervisory experience. You must submit the following with your application: 1). Writing sample of two pages or less. The writing sample may be an excerpt of a longer document but not exceeding two pages in actual length. 2.) A Certificate of Good Standing issued within the past 3 months showing the applicant is a member in good standing of the Bar of the highest court of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States or sufficient proof that the same has been requested with the appropriate licensing authority. Upon selection the following documents will be requested: An official transcript of your law school record together with an official statement of your relative standing in your class. However, if you have been a member of the Bar for 5 years or more, the transcript requirement may be waived. An official statement that your fitness to practice law or your conduct as an attorney have never been challenged. If either your fitness or conduct has been challenged, an official statement concerning the facts and circumstances together with any explanation that you may wish to submit. Education

The successful applicant must have graduated with a J.D. or LL.M. from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, and be admitted to practice before a state or federal court.
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (https://www.ed.gov/). Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
