About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City,
Duties
Perform a broad range of cooking or reheating of items from a pre-cooked/pre-prepared/leftover state including the full array of meats, starches, fruit, and vegetables.
Follow recipe guidelines, established menus, food preparation procedures, cooking instructions, codes and regulations.
Disassemble, clean, sanitize, assemble, and operate large scale gas, electric, and steam kitchen equipment, components, and food contact surfaces.
Follow workplace safety rules regarding kitchen equipment, chemical usage and storage, and proper wear of personal protective equipment.
Maintain inventory accountability, stock rotation, and food protection.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to work shift schedules that include early mornings, late nights, week-ends, and holidays.
- This is a weather essential position, and the incumbent must report to work and/or remain in their position during bad weather, natural disasters, or other crisis.
- This position requires passing a pre-employment physical examination and periodic physical examinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and lift and carry items weighing over 40 pounds with assistance.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear safety gear/personal protective equipment (PPE).
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Cook without more than normal supervision to include (1) Preparing and/or cooking items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausages, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables, hot cereals and concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces and gravies; (2) Operating kitchen equipment which utilizes gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources; and (3) Cleaning equipment and/or work areas after use. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stand at work tables to measure, mark, label, and cut materials for long periods. Continually use eyes, arms, hands, and fingers for using tools such as spreading machines, shears and power cutters. Often does considerable stooping and bending. Handle rolls of material or garment pieces that are consistently heavy and bulky, weighing 25-120 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Shop is adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Subject to cuts, punctures, scratches, and other irritations and injuries from handling sharp tools. Subject to allergies from dyes, dust, and lint from fabrics.
