The position is located in Honolulu, HI as a detached duty member of the Long Range Enforcer (LRE) Product Line Engineering Branch (ENG) at the U. S. Coast Guard Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC). 

Duties

The incumbent serves as the maintenance technical lead advising, overseeing, and managing planned and emergent maintenance on the propulsion systems Maritime Security Cutter, Large (WMSL) fleet, assisting the Propulsion Systems Support Integrator regarding lifecycle logistics, and operational and performance analysis which also includes developing, designing, planning, and writing engineering specifications--this typically includes research, preparation, and revision of documents used to describe work on Coast Guard vessels.  

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Qualify as a Level II Contracting Officer's Representative within one year.
  • Complete Port Engineer Training Course within one year.
  • Become DHS Level I Project Manager certified within two years.
  • Become NACE Coatings Inspector Program Level I certified within one year.

Qualifications

TO QUALIFY FOR GS-12: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level is required.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes: reviews requests for repairs and alterations and recommends approval, disapproval and/or alternate suggestions; evaluates maintenance and repair objectives and identifies the most economical and efficient procedures for project accomplishment considering all influences; conducts ship checks and site surveys to obtain field data on the nature and condition of existing systems and structures, collects data to plan and analyze special projects, studies and testing and development tasks assigned to the PDM Section; meets with contractors, manufacturers, and unit representatives to establish maintenance and repair requirements; produces finished sketches, drawings, preliminary schematics, or final working drawings; facilitates training programs and materials.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
