The incumbent provides engineering assistance working with landowners, groups, and units of government to apply and maintain a variety of conservation practices in their area of assigned responsibility.
Duties
Prepares detailed construction drawings for complex engineering projects provides direct field assistance for conservation practice implementation and quality assurance.
Utilizes CADD and incorporates maps and data into project documents including technical details, schematics, three-dimensional models, preliminary construction drawings and final construction drawings.
Designs and supervises the design of complete engineering practices and structures. Prepares job sheets and designs. Prepares as-built plans. Prepares engineering cost estimates and construction performance time estimates.
Selects and applies standard methods of computation for quantities such as concrete, earth fill and excavation. Develops standard drawings on the CAD system.
Provides civil engineering technician field assistance in support of NRCS conservation activities.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Applicants must have one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-7 grade level for consideration for the GS-8 grade level).
Specialized Experience at the GS-10 level: To qualify for the GS-10 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that has equipped you with the necessary competencies to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include:
Providing technical assistance, working with landowners, groups, and units of government to apply and maintain a variety of conservation practices;
Designing engineering practices, and preparing engineering drawings, and;
Preparing cost estimates and provides technical assistance on initial planning, design and construction inspection.
Note: There is no education substitution for the GS-10 level.
