THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This ND National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, Position Description Number D0736000 and is part of the ND 119 Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, National Guard.
Duties
The purpose of this position is to provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions which, because of their scope, volume and complexity are carried out by two or more organizational segments and layers, possibly during two or more shifts.
Plans the overall allocation of personnel and other resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operations which, because of their scope, volume, and complexity, must be planned on a yearly or longer basis.
Provides higher level managers and/or supervisors information on status of work projects, budget estimates, changes in equipment, facilities, techniques, etc.
Explains work requirements to subordinate levels of supervision, sets deadlines and sequence of operations.
Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by them.
Determines long-range training needs for all levels of subordinates, submits funding and budget requests with justification for approval, and arranges for the accomplishment of the training.
Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
Requirements
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND Air National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposition is mandatory.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have theskill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have 36 months of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; 2) Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; 3) The ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
In addition to the craftsman-level experience, applicants must also possess 36 months of supervisory experience which includes: 1) Ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel; 2) Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines; 3) Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes; and 4) Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
