Duties

As a Statistician (Health) you will: Develop the analytical plan incorporating appropriate statistical methods and techniques, execute the analysis of data, and interprets results. Provide technical leadership, consultation, and advice on statistical analysis and methods, and techniques of assigned studies. Ensure the statistical validity of study activities by solving problems occurring in the data collection process. Prepare comprehensive reports of study results which include discussion of substantive health issues and research objectives; assessment of the adequacy and quality of data used in the analyses; and explanation of the methodologies, results, and relevance to issues as they relate to the problem under study.

Requirement continued Must possess a valid State government-issued driver's license. Subject to temporary duty assignment at any location in the United States and its territories or possessions, in foreign countries, or at sea. Subject to shift operations, to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, independent of shift assignments. Incumbent is required to be current on immunizations as per ACIP guidelines. Incumbent must undergo baseline and periodic health screening procedures such as hearing tests and PPD tests for tuberculosis exposure. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Have a degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. Or Have a combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: conducting research studies/projects for the purpose of identifying, analyzing, or reporting on emerging public health issues and problems related to border health, health of migrant populations, travel medicine, and/or related subjects Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
