The primary purpose of this position is: Provides technical writing and editing support for the publication of documents relating to the operational test and evaluation of Air Force systems, subsystems or components, and supporting equipment.

Duties

Applies technical writing and editing skills to accurately communicate information relating to the operational test and evaluation and tactics development and evaluation of Air Force systems, subsystems or components and supporting equipment. Edits and prepares documents developed by 605 TES test team members for publication. Develops formats for all 605 TES documents. Prepares documents for review board action, coordination, and signature. Prepares and maintains a wide assortment of guides and resource material for 605 TES use. Uses various computer software programs for increased efficiency and document turn-around.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions Technical Writing and Editing Series 1083. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 (or higher) grade level or equivalent (may have been obtained in the federal service, military, or public sector) which includes knowledge of grammar, writing and editing practices, and the style requirements of the media and the publications used. Knowledge of readily available sources of information on the appropriate subjects including library resources and subject matter experts. Knowledge of acquisition of information on a variety of subjects in the course of completing assignments. Knowledge of desktop publishing technology to draft, edit, design, and develop manuscripts into camera-ready copy. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D. which includes a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least once course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. (When crediting education that requires specific course work, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the principles of technical writing and editing 2. Ability to apply technical writing and editing skills to a specialized vocabulary/technically appropriate field. 3. Ability to research technical data. 4. Ability to communicate orally and effectively in writing. 5. Knowledge of multiple software programs. 6. Ability to work as a team member and maintain good working relations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act requires federal agencies to treat an eligible active duty service member as a veteran, disabled veteran, and preference eligible (as applicable) when applying for civil service positions before the effective release or discharge date. Appointment of military members before the release or discharge date is permissible if the member is on terminal leave. At the time the active duty member applies for a civil position, he or she must submit a "certification" memo in lieu of a DD-Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. Active duty members applying for a civil service position without submitting a valid certification memo or DD-Form 214 with their application will render the member ineligible for the position. The certification memo must originate from the member's military service branch on official letterhead and contain the following:
