You will serve as a TOOLMAKER in the Machinery Division, Repair Shop Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.

Duties

You will be responsible for dimensional accuracy of complex tools, jigs, fixtures, and gages; for making adjustments, corrections, calibrating and repairing of precision measuring tools. You will apply shop mathematics and handbook formulas to compute dimensions and plan/layout work. You will set up and operate a variety of precision machine tools. You will read and interpret drawings, sketches, plans and blueprints. You will perform handwork such as filing, scraping, grinding, and lapping to finish and assemble items. You will choose proper materials for items to be made by knowing the effects of annealing, hardening, stress relieving on metals and metal alloys.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to lift/carry/set-up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs.
  • Work is performed in shop areas, sometimes confined, congested, and exposed to industrial noises. On occasion, required to work aboard ships/submarines.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
