Duties

As Insider Threat Specialist, at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties: Utilize digital evidence and network data as part of cyber-related inquiries with internal, interagency, and national implications. Perform User Activity Monitoring (UAM) and other cyber forensic activities to detect insider threat activities and suspicious behavior. Work independently and part of a team to deter, detect, and mitigate insider threat incidents. Follow the guidance of superiors, legal, human resources, and other stakeholder representatives on complex inquiries. Maintain coordination with analytical teams and other insider threat stakeholders and prepares responses to queries, reports, justifications, and background papers on insider threat issues.

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Conducting inquiries into suspected insider threat activity related to an agency; Utilizing computer forensic techniques to assist in aspects of operational activities to identify threats; Monitoring computer networks for anomalous or unauthorized activities; and Conducting inquiries, fact finding, and data analysis within various intelligence and other data bases that may contain information relevant to the identification of potential threats.
