You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY NORFOLK NSY.

Duties

You will develop training for junior employees in fire protection or prevention to enhance performance in emergency support functions. You will assess a junior firefighter or employee work performance to determine if performance objectives are being met. You will present fire protection and prevention education or training to employees. You will develop a fire protection or fire prevention program for a fire department. You will manage the development and implementation of a risk management plan for a fire department. You will prepare inspection reports to document findings of fire safety deficiencies.

  • You are required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

  • The following certifications, if not already held, must be obtained within 12 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: Driver Operator Aerial, HazMat Technician and Marine Firefighter.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; 2) Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention; 3) Operating a variety of firefighter vehicles, apparatuses and equipment; 4) Providing hazardous material incident response; NOTE: This information must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for the position. Current Permanent Employees of Org Code N30 within Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (CNRMA) must meet specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; 2) Operating a variety of firefighter vehicles, apparatuses or equipment; 3) Initiating established medical protocols to perform basic life support and performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures; In addition, this position requires possession of the following certifications: 1) Firefighter I; 2) Firefighter II; 3) HazMat Awareness; 4) HazMat Operations; 5) HazMat Incident Commander; 6) Driver Operator Pumper; 7) Fire Officer I; 8) Fire Officer II; 9) Fire Inspector I; 10) Fire Instructor I; 11) NREMT; 12) CPR. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, NREMT, IFSAC or Proboard to meet the requirements. NOTE: If you do not possess all of the above certifications, and provide copy with your application, you will be rated ineligible.
