About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Assess transmissions and related components to determine disassembly and repair needs. Perform mechanical duties on a disassembly line or bay. Able to select and comply with technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams and schematics. Determines serviceability of assemblies and subassemblies and if economically repairable or should be replaced.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc., must satisfactorily complete and pass the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.

I can determine serviceability of assemblies and subassemblies of the transmission and its related equipment. Remove major assemblies and/or systems from the transmission and return to specialized shop for rebuild and/or repair. Modify a variety of miscellaneous components and accessories for combat and tactical vehicles. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated; is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
