These positions are located in Salem and Springfield, Oregon. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of technical forestry work in support of forestry programs and activities.

Duties
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor.
Collects and compiles forest and woodland management data regarding location, size, character, extent, volume, rate of growth, and quality of timber. Collects forest inventory data from timber cruises, prepares timber sales, performs timber markings in forest development projects, road layout projects, and other work.
Inspects and reports on timber sale areas to determine compliance with contract requirements.
Marks or otherwise designates timber to be removed in timber sales or for use disposals. Collects information for, and prepares necessary reports on, forest and woodland trespass cases.
Examines timber stands to determine need for, or thoroughness of, insect and disease control work.
Collects field data and documents findings. Compiles maps of forest and woodland areas, cutover areas, burned areas, and special use areas. Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Utilizes instruments needed to take measurements.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- May be required to complete background investigation.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying.
GS-05:
A. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sector) performing 2 or more of the following: 1) collecting forest inventory or field data to document findings for higher level review; 2) assisting senior forestry technicians in gathering information for preparing the forestry portion of routine planning or environmental clearance documents; 3) utilizing computer programs, software applications, or geospatial equipment to provide administrative support work associated with forestry programs.
OR
B. Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education.

C. Combination: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience. To calculate your combined amount, first determine the amount of your specialized experience as a percentage of the requirement listed in A above. Then determine the amount of your education as a percentage of the requirement listed in B above; then add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education.
GS-06:
A. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sector) performing 2 or more of the following: 1) assisting in gathering resource information used to prepare the forestry portion of planning documents; 2) conducting segments of forest inventories or timber stand examinations; 3) performing conventional forestry support duties such as administering contracts, forest plantings, thinning, forest disease and insect control, unit layout, etc. as directed by senior forestry technicians and/or foresters.???????

B. Education: Successful completion of 1 full year of graduate level education which included courses directly related to the work of the position such as: forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education.
OR
C. Combination: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience. To calculate your combined amount, first determine the amount of your specialized experience as a percentage of the requirement listed in A above. Then determine the amount of your education as a percentage of the requirement listed in B above; then add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education.
GS-07:
A. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sector) performing 2 or more of the following: 1) drafting segments of routine planning or environmental documents; 2) performing timber sale reconnaissance or unit design for proposed timber sale tracts; 3) providing advice, assistance, or training to lower graded technicians; 4) providing data collection (i.e., timber cruises, sample surveys, field surveys, etc.) support for timber sales or forest stand inventory.

B. Education: Successful completion of 1 full year of graduate level education which included courses directly related to the work of the position such as: forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education.
OR

Status merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-05 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level.
One year at the GS-06 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level.(Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted).
