Supervisory Store Associates serves as the first line supervisor and manager of the Front-End Department of a Commissary store. They are responsible for all aspects of planning, scheduling, coordinating and controlling front end activities and personnel, and controlling all funds received and deposited daily as part of the front-end department operations. Specific assignments vary by individual store and store management requirements.
Duties
Serves as a first line supervisor for Store Associates.
Directs the following work in multiple areas of the commissary.
Front end operations including patron identification, customer inquiries, check out and cash control.
Non-perishable stock control including transporting item and stocking shelves.
Meat display and case stocking.
Produce inspection display and rotation.
Accounts maintenance, supply, and computer operations.

Requirements

Qualifications
You must meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 1101 and additional requirements by the announcement closing date. Your resume (and/or transcript if necessary) must clearly show that you have the qualifications described below. You can use experience, education, superior academic achievement, or a combination of experience and education to qualify. When using education to meet qualifications you must submit transcripts. Experience: One (1) year of demonstrated knowledge of retail procurement and distribution methods; principles, procedures, and techniques of retail food merchandising and retail food store management; and developments in commercial retail food store items, equipment, and practices (specialized experience) equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level. Experience can be under other Federal service pay systems, private sector, or military. Examples of qualifying experience include:
Plans, directs, or assigns work for employees.
Knowledge of multiple departments within the grocery store to evaluate work, provide instruction and conduct on the job training for workers.
Additional Requirements that must be met by the closing date:
Physical requirements: Frequently lift, push, pull, carry, and handle commissary products weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance. Heavier products are moved with assistance from other workers or by weight-handling equipment (for example: manual or electric pallet jacks.) (2) Long periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and similar activities when taking inventory, retrieving items from the warehouse, and stocking shelves. You will attest to your ability to perform these physical requirements in the Questionnaire.
Time-in-grade applies to the promotion of current and former federal employees who hold or have held a permanent GS position in either the competitive or excepted service in the previous 52 weeks, including current employees applying under VEOA. For GS-8: You must have 52 weeks of Federal service at or equivalent to GS-6.
Time after competitive appointment. Current federal civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since being selected for a non-temporary appointment from a competitive examination register of eligibles (an announcement opened to the public) or under a direct hire authority.
