Duties

Responsible for the implementation of policies and development of procedures for the physical protection of IMCOM and tenant activities facilities withing the installation. Serve as the installation Physical Security Specialist. Develops, manages and executes the installation physical security program. Formulate physical security policy, develops implementing plans and directives, and assesses program adequacy. Advise the Senior Commander, Garrison Commander, Director of Emergency Services and the Chief of Security and Access Control division on all physical security matters. Review plans for new constructions or modifications to existing structures for adherence to physical security regulations and force protection construction criteria. Participate on protection committees, protection working groups, and threat working groups to gather, consolidate and carry out an effective installation physical security program. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is Non-critical Sensitive (NCS) National Security Risk and incumbent is required to obtain and retain a Secret clearance.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete the Conventional Physical Security Officer/Crime Prevention course within one year of hire, depending on course availability and/or funding.
  • This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Incumbent must participate in a random drug testing program, as required.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
  • The employee may be recalled to duty.
  • One year of probationary period may be required.
  • Must obtain the Physical Security Certification within their first 2 years of employment. This certification is to establish a common set of competencies for security practitioners to develop a workforce of certified security professionals.

OR Education: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field related to the position being filled. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: The specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and at least two years of graduate education as described above, but less than the required three years. You must compute the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total must be least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) Specialized Experience External Applicants: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) advising senior officials and managers on physical security matters; 2) conducting physical security inspections; 3) applying physical security policies and procedures for safeguarding property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
