The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the operations of the Motor Vehicle shop and the Fleet unit and is the Supervisor of the Miscellaneous Services Unit in the Engineering Service. Primary duties include furnishing leadership, direction and supervision to employees assigned to the Unit.
Duties
Major duties include:
Able to operate and instruct others in the safe operation of tools, equipment and vehicles.
Oversee the operation of motor vehicles and fleet.
Furnishes necessary transportation to the facility.
Submits reports on vehicle costs and mileage, also all accident reports involving vehicles assigned to the facility.
Able to read and understand blueprints, engineering drawing, specification sheets and written instructions and interpret them to subordinate employees.
Sets specifications and orders new and replacement equipment for the service
Responsible for planning and coordinating the maintenance and dispatching of some 85 leased and/or facility owned vehicles to coincide with the transportation needs.
Responsible for the proper maintenance of all equipment assigned to the service.
Responsible for the submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual cost and estimated cost reports on vehicles.
Works out procedures, obtain tools and equipment and assigns personnel.
Devises simplified work procedures, makes minor procedural changes, and recommends others to leadership.
Oversight of work involved in the construction and repair of concrete surfaces and structures.
Responsible to furnish leadership, instruction and supervision to subordinate employees.
Works with very little immediate and technical supervision.
Responsible for the efficient management of the personnel and equipment.
Directly supervises employees of the service in maintaining and repairing sidewalks, curbs, roadways, parking areas, and storm sewers.
Oversite of the ground's maintenance contract and in aiding other shops as needed.
Responsible for inspecting the work of all employees of the service for compliance.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Considerable walking, climbing, stooping, bending and lifting are required. Position requires good vision and physical alertness when operating and training employees in the operating of various pieces of equipment. Most of the work is performed outdoors and exposure to extreme cold, heat and moisture are common. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, and minor electrical shocks in addition to physical discomfort and injuries associated with being in the proximity of the application of fertilizer, herbicides and fungicides as utilized in agricultural applications. Employee may be exposed to noise levels exceeding 85dBA for up to 8 hours per day. This exposure may adversely affect hearing. The wearing of ear protection devices while operating all combustion engine-powered grounds maintenance equipment is mandatory as is participation in the Hearing Conservation Program. Employee must be able to hear while wring ear protection at a level to safely perform assigned duties.
