About the Position: This is a Medical Records Technician (Office Automation) position located in the Admissions Department of the Naval Hospital Jacksonville. It involves shift work, rotating shifts, and rotating weekends and Holidays.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense.
Duties
Confirm eligibility status and requirements of patients in order to create appropriate inpatient encounters.
Coordinate the collection and release of patient valuables and personal effects.
Retrieve electronic health information from systems storing medical records as needed for direct inpatient care.
Prepare, create and electronically submit birth certificate applications and congratulatory birth correspondence and verify accuracy of documents.
Use computer programs to perform admission and disposition functions.
Utilize automated healthcare systems to research medical documents.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position requires a qualified typist.
- This position requires regular and re-occurring shiftwork, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, or on-call work.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as establishing and/or maintaining medical records for patients; utilizing office software such as Microsoft word, Excel, and/or Power Point to create documents/spreadsheets. Experience with medical terminology and documentation in order to utilize electronic health record systems such as the Defense Health Agency inpatient electronic health record system (GENESIS), Health Artifacts and Image Management Solutions (HAIMS) Medical Records. Experience with compliance of regulatory rules and regulations regarding patient privacy, release of information, as they pertain to health information management and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

1445-2315
2300-0730
12 hours shifts on weekends and holidays would be 0700-1930 and 1900-0730.
Education
