This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel Workforce for DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, Tri-Lakes Project office located in Littleton, CO.
Duties
Serve as a Maintenance Worker, operating and maintaining 4 flood control dams.
Operate and install service gates, emergency gates and bulkheads; inspect, repair and maintain the appurtenant structures and systems of the dam including a variety mechanical and electrical work; participate in annual and periodic dam inspections.
Maintain upkeep and repair of roads, buildings, grounds, utilities, and equipment within the project office through various mechanical, electrical, welding, carpentry, painting, and plumbing tasks. Maintains sites located about the Denver area.
Assists with small purchase order contracts to include: determining type of contractor, services or supplies required, obtaining prices, overseeing completion/delivery of services or supplies.
Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment to include: light duty pick-up trucks, dump trailers, dump truck, snowplow, skid steer loader, ATV, boat, crane, and industrial tractor, backhoe and rental equipment.
The incumbent may have to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project.
Maintains and repairs equipment such as, hydraulic gates, hoists, overhead cranes, elevators, sump pumps, standby generators, and HVAC equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Designated Position (TDP), in accordance with ER 690-1-1218, USACE Civilian Drug Free Workplace Program, dated 30 June 2021. Participation in the Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Program is required.
- Must obtain a US Army Corps of Engineers Motorboat Operator’s License upon employment.
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project.
- Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
- May be required to have a valid CPR certificate, First Aid Card and first responder (or equivalent) training.
- Will be required to work in non-permit required and Category II permit required confined spaces be able to implement proper entry techniques. Required to know and implement the requirements of the Confined Space Program.
- May be required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's license (CDL).
- Pre-employment physical is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common ground maintenance activities. I can read mechanical diagrams that specify the procedures to maintain and repair mechanical equipment. Under supervision, I have repaired equipment such as such as elevators, sump pumps, standby generators and HVAC equipment. I have made basic electrical repairs such as tightening connections and insulating bare wires. I have set up and performed basic, rudimentary welding jobs. I have experience operating vehicles and equipment such as sedans, light duty pick-up trucks, and mowers to pick up debris and mow grass. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works from ladder scaffolds and on platforms in cramped and hard to reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, works in awkward, tiring and uncomfortable positions. Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, frequently lifting, moving, and carrying items up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds with and without assistance while handling heavy equipment, parts, and materials, pushing wheelbarrows and running power equipment. Considerable arm movement is required for various operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside exposed to all weather conditions, in dusty, dirty, greasy, oily, damp, or noisy conditions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors. Exposed to dirt and fumes. Subject to possible injury due to falls from ladders or scaffolds, vehicular accidents, loading and unloading vehicles, or from hand or power tools. Subject to cuts, bruises, insect bites, stings, scrapes, burns, infections, and broken bones. May be required to work uncommon tour of duty and extra hours.
