Duties

The successful applicant will be able to work equally well individually and in a team setting and will possess the judgment, skill, and fearlessness necessary to succeed as part of a fast-paced and aggressive prosecution team. The position is in the USAO Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) unit in the Criminal Division. Established in 1982, the OCDETF is the centerpiece of the U.S. Attorney General's strategy to combat transnational-organized-crime and reduce illicit narcotics availability in the nation by using a prosecutor-led, multi-agency approach to enforcement. OCDETF implements a nationwide strategy combining priority targeting, coordination, intelligence sharing, and directed resources to have the most significant impact on disrupting and dismantling command and control elements of criminal organizations. The selected AUSA will work hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies to prosecute these cases in the Northern District of Alabama. OCDETF leverages the resources and expertise of its partners in concentrated, coordinated, long-term enterprise investigations of transnational organized crime, money laundering, and significant drug trafficking networks. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.   • You must be a United States Citizen or National.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
