Duties
Establishes Major Subordinate Command (MSC) manuals and Standard Operating Procedures focused on the effective management of the Commanders/Director Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program.
Serves as the principal Industrial Hygienist (IH) advisor to MSC Commanders/Director to analyze and resolve diverse high-risk hazards.
Establishes and maintains close liaison with multiple counterparts to ensure implementation of a coordinated IH program.
Reviews and develops trending/analysis in order to develop plans, programs, safety system designs and implementation procedures for MSC operations.
Coordinates activities for assuring reduction of health hazards.

Qualifications
To qualify for an Industrial Hygienist your resume and supporting documentation must support:
A. Basic Requirement: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science;
OR
A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). NOTE: Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
B. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Managing or conducting mishap investigations.
Assisting in developing local IH policies and standard operating procedures.
Performing physical inspections, IH sampling, and administrative audits.
Performing analysis of employee exposures, occupational medical surveillance enrollment, and adverse trends.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
