This position is located in the United States Coast Guard, Office of Base Operations, Naval Engineering Department, IPF DD-Detroit, located in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.
Duties
This is a Maintenance Mechanic position located at the USCG Industrial Production Detachment (IPD) in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. The Maintenance Mechanic will perform a variety of basic trades to include marine maintenance mechanic, electrician, and welder to complete Industrial Service Orders. Typical work includes preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and repairs, troubleshooting, and fabrication. Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include: - Installing, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling a wide variety of marine machinery such as marine engine, clutches, hydraulic motors, and winches. - Identifying and using applicable welding process (shielded metal ark, gas tungsten ark, gas metal ark, oxygen and acetylene) to join various types of metals and alloys. - Installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide variety of system electrical equipment such as pumps, heaters, alarms, electric motors. - Interpreting and applying blueprints, technical manuals, and instructions. - Operating heavy equipment to include: mobile boat hoist, overhead crane, forklift, man lift.
Requirements
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- A one-year probationary period may be required.

4. Use of measuring instruments
5. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (including blueprint reading)
6. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
7. Knowledge of material
