This position is located in The Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Base Boston, Naval Engineering Department, Industrial Production Facility, Boston, MA.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repair of industrial machinery, equipment and systems.  Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:* Installing, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, overhauling and servicing of a variety of complex industrial plant machinery, equipment and systems.* Reviewing and following approved and designated maintenance procedure cards for on-site industrial equipment, selecting and ordering and installing the proper materials.* Maintaining equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s technical manuals and approved maintenance procedure cards*Reassembling, performing operational and functional tests and making required adjustments in order to ensure safe and proper operation of entire system.* Operating cranes, fork trucks, front-end loaders and other material handling equipment.* Leveraging technical skill to track maintenance activities in Coast Guard Information Technology (IT) tools of record.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: -Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT)-Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. -Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)-Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting reading).-Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.-Knowledge of Materials-TroubleshootingNational Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
