The position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs, and will operate within the Veterans Transportation Service program at the Chalmers P. Wylie Columbus VA Ambulatory Care Center. The purpose of this position is to provide transportation services for Veterans served by the Columbus VAACC as well as the Community Based Outpatient Clinics to appointments at VA facilities or other destinations. This position serves as a Leader and works under the supervision of the VTS Mobility Manger

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Assesses daily workload and leads in performing required tasks; individuals must do a walk around of each vehicle on a daily basis. Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures completion and timeliness of the work. The incumbent receives work assignments and direction regarding work methods, procedures, and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager. As a team leader, the incumbent of this position assures the work of laborers and motor vehicle operators are being completed as directed. Frequently reviews the statues and progress of work and makes day to day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, referring unusual problems to the supervisor, such as backlogs. Provides on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices, and other VA/VHA and General Services Administration (GSA) rules, regulations, and tracking compliances regarding MVOs. Work Leader will maintain accurate inventory and potential replacement of equipment to include Vetride tablets Work Leader will maintain accurate records for mileage and gas card usages for all fleet. They will enter all information into the Vetride system. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others to supervisor. Reports to supervisor on employee performance, progress, training needs, or behavior problems; provides information requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and other personnel needs. Reconciles monthly credit card statements, checks for fraud or misuse. Monitors vehicle usage; to include, recording number of trips and passenger totals and types. Ensures vehicle fleet is sized and maintained to VA and GSA requirements. Possessing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for the position. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent must drive in very congested traffic, construction zones and country roads. The incumbent must handle patients, both Ambulatory and wheelchair, in loading and unloading from vans and buses. Incumbent must handle patients loading to Wheelchair from hospital bed, and to Wheelchair in private homes, encounters narrow hallways, and difficult loading areas thereby increasing physical effort. Incumbent must be able to stoop, bend, climb, and lift more than seventy-five lbs. He/she must be able to drive for four-hour periods and stay mentally alert. If driver realizes he/she is not mentally alert, must use good judgement in pulling over at the first safe area, road checking bus with walk-around inspection and then continue driving as soon as possible. The daily duties performed consist of climbing in and out of vehicles, moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on or in to load or tie down cargo. Works in all weather conditions, pushing and pulling laundry carts and wheelchairs; sometimes lifting heavy freight equipment, supplies, etc., climbing steps, loading and unloading. patients in wheelchairs in vans, and driving long hours on trips. Must be physically sound and have good coordination of eyes, hands, feet, and vision and depth perception. Must be mentally alert to traffic hazards and dangers of the highway.
