The Lead Security Assistant leads a team of Security Assistants responsible for monitoring physical security equipment and systems for the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System (VALLHS) Police Service.

Duties

Leading a team of security assistants in carrying out day-to-day work operations Identifying, distributing, and balancing workload and tasks among employees Training or arranging training necessary to accomplish individual and team tasks Leading a team in assessing work methods, processes, and procedures to explore alternatives and determine improvements Performing alarm and access monitoring, trace access patterns, and assigning or removing user permissions Opening and securing doors remotely during routine and emergency operations Assessing on-scene behavior and determining when it is appropriate to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate Responding to alarm systems monitoring fire, access, intrusion, duress/panic, medical emergencies, psychiatric emergencies, medical assist teams, etc. Performing system checks on a variety of equipment used in the dispatch center Operating a variety of communications and security equipment, such as computers, multi-frequency radios, multi-line telephone system, and other related peripherals Maintaining accurate key inventory and accountability database Utilizing an electronic system to complete vehicle registration tasks and issue decals/permits as authorized Monitoring and receiving routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services Maintaining contact with law enforcement units on assignment Monitoring and directing responses to security and life safety communications, radio dispatches, telephone calls, and other emergency communication circuits Compiling and preparing reports related to events occurring in the operation of the police control center Performing and documenting emergency callbacks when necessary Operating an established vehicle registration and visitor management program Maintaining accountability of police officer badges issued and all associated logs Coordinating with various federal, state and local law enforcement officials for coordination of emergency situations Conducting equipment inventories and completes records and other logs Entering, updating, and retrieving information from a variety of computer systems and sensitive databases Utilizing state and national systems to access law enforcement information to support field operations and investigations Querying for items such as criminal histories, arrest warrants, drivers record, vehicle registration, stolen property, firearms, etc. Promotion Potential: None Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 Hour Shifts Compressed/Flexible: No Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/21/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of security or law enforcement objectives and programs; overseeing, leading, and balancing the workload of staff; carrying out support tasks related to law enforcement and security administration; monitoring and responding to physical alarm systems and security cameras; dispatching officers; monitoring computers for video surveillance; and maintaining reports and logs. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working on off-tours, rotating shifts or regular overtime may be required.
