You will serve as a Scientist in the EM Measurements & Engineering Branch; Electromagnetic Effects Division; Electromagnetic & Sensor Systems Department of NAVSURFWARCENDLD. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. ND-04 is equivalent to GS-12/13.

Duties

You will perform electromagnetic testing on systems and components aboard U.S. Naval Afloat, other vessels, and Shore Commands. You will coordinate and perform efforts required for the electromagnetic testing of shipboard systems such as Fire Control Systems, Radars, and Communications Systems. You will complete electromagnetic and RADHAZ analysis and document findings and recommendations in technical reports. You will support project planning and closure and other programmatic responsibilities to ensure quality and timely execution of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) projects. You will perform modeling and simulation as well as computational electromagnetic modeling (CEM) to evaluate, document, and display electromagnetic environment using software coding practices and commercially available software. You will develop plans and procedures to extend existing knowledge for newly emerging ideas and concepts. You will provide well thought out advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, peers, and sponsors on technical aspects of systems or concept development. Proactively work independently and as a team member with a diverse group of scientists and engineers, to include military, civilian, and contractor representatives.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09/11 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional scientist conducting research, development, test & evaluation, modeling & simulation, or analysis of warfare systems (e.g. combat systems, radar, communications systems) to evaluate electromagnetic effects or improve system performance. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

A degree in physics; or related degree that includes at least 24 semester hours in physics;
or
A combination of education and experience demonstrated by coursework that is equivalent to a major in physics (at least 24 semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education.
