This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Performs the full range of work involved in the overhaul, modification, inspection, and repair of small arms, such as, recoilless rifles, very fast firing multi-barrel machine guns, heavy machineguns, and grenade launchers. Modify weapons by replacing old parts with new parts of modified design or make changes such as reaming out a hole or smoothing off rivet heads. Contributes to the design or redesign of small arms by making or reshaping parts in accordance with engineering directives and drawings to arrive at a practical solution of the fabrication objectives. Performs acceptance, initial, line, and final inspections in the shop and field of small arms Performs operational checks of repaired weapons, using the appropriate gauges, blank and used ammunition, bore scopes and maintaining and servicing paying attention to operation ability and safe condition, test fires weapons. Maintain records, receive weapons, and prepare DA2404, DA2407, DA2407-1, read and understand manuals, schematics, and diagrams. Checks for adequate storage and security of the weapons.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to obtain and maintain eligibility for this position based on the provisions of the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY)is required 5% of the time.
  • Required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to wear protective equipment such as respirators, safety glasses, etc.
  • Required to refrain from the use of illegal drugs and submit to a pre-employment drug screening and random testing thereafter to obtain and maintain employment in this position.
  • Required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Position requires the ability to distinguish either basic or shades of colors.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform simple tasks on standard and non-standard small arms. Ability to assemble and disassemble standard and non-standard small arms under the supervision of a team lead. Use basic shop mathematics; apply finishing agents to standard and non-standard small arms to increase strength and durability; assist with modification of design; use welder equipment to modify non-standard small arms and non-standard small arms parts and tools. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
