You will serve as a SHOT PEENING MECHANICAL OPERATOR in the MRO PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT of FLTREADCEN EAST.

Duties

You will work independently and train others in more complex aspects of the trade. You will set up, adjust and operate a variety of shot peening machines. You will utilize preset programs to operate computer control programs equipment for parts and components coming into the shop. You will utilize blueprints, schematics, technical directives and manuals to decide the proper heat treating, cleaning and brazing process. You will assembles fixtures and anodes to plate multiple component simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The position often requires irregular hours.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: A - Performing difficult and complex tasks at the journeyman level, a variety of tasking using automatic, manual, stationary or portable shot peening machines; 2) Performing shot peening operations on various aircraft, engines parts or other related components; 3) Inducing residual compressive stresses in critical areas to increase fatigue strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking; 4) Performing tasks associated with Metalizing of various metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous; 5) Assisting other mechanics and workers qualified at a higher level for shot peening in the full range of their duties; 6) Working Independently with little oversite from supervisor or journeyman personnel. B - Performing a full range of tasks using automatic, manual, stationary or portable shot peening machines; 2) Performing shot peening operations on various aircraft, engines parts or other related components with assistance; 3) Inducing residual compressive stresses in critical areas to increase fatigue strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking; 4) Performing tasks associated with Metalizing of various metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous with assistance; 5) Assisting other mechanics and workers qualified at a higher level for shot peening in the full range of their duties; C - Performing common task utilizing automatic, manual, stationary or portable shot peening machines; 2) Performing shot peening operations on various aircraft, engines parts or other related components with assistance; 3) Performing tasks associated with Metalizing of various metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous with assistance; 4) Assisting other mechanics and workers qualified at a higher level for shot peening assisting with full mechanics duties; Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
