You will serve as a Lead Mail Assistant in the Mail Facility of NAVSUP FLC SD GF.

Duties

You will ensure that all mail clerks adhere to all USPS, DOD and DON, regulations, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Postal Affairs and other applicable guidelines and laws. You will lead and coordinate the processing of incoming and outgoing mail and determines applicable postage requirements. You will have knowledge of United States Postal Service, Department of the Navy and Department of Defense directives, regulations, laws and practices You will maintain and complete forms, reports, files and mail related administrative matters.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a driver's license before the first day of employment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-06) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing a full range of mail processing and routing operations by operating automated machinery, delivering correspondence and mail, and applying a knowledge of a wide variety of Agency and US Postal System policies and regulations that govern the flow of mail communications. You have experience distinguishing among a variety of distribution points and routings when servicing organizational units that are diverse in scope and/or have overlapping functions. Examples of specialized experience include some or all of the following: 1.) Receive, sort, collect, meter postage, process, deliver and direct the distribution of incoming and outgoing U.S. Mail, Messenger Mail, DOD/DON Inter-Agency Mail; 2.) Operate electronic/automated high volume mail processing equipment, electronic postage metering systems, electronic decision-making scales and other postal and mail center equipment; 3.) Record, control, sort, process, deliver, receive and dispatch incoming and outgoing Accountable Mail, Special Handling, Express Mail, and classified materials; 4.) Examine all mall material for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packing and labeling requirements; 5.) Operate various class C vehicles to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch all U.S Mail, Messenger Mail, and Inter-Agency Mail using established scheduled routes and special mail runs to and from commands and USPS facility.
