The General Engineer position is located in the Facilities Department at the Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca, Arizona. This position is responsible for the over-site of project management of healthcare facility construction activities throughout the Hopi Health Care Center and will report to the Facilities Manager.
Duties
Provide project management of health care facility construction activities.
Manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in architecture or engineering projects.
Confer with management to discuss project specifications or procedures.
Review, and recommend cost estimates to achieve the goals of the master plan
Consult or Negotiate contract specifications with organizational elements of agency and contractors
Analyzing submission of concepts, preliminary working drawings and specifications prepared by contracted architect/engineers for compliance with agency standards, policies , and goals
Provide technical assistance as a subject matter expert within the qualifying discipline i.e. civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements (Education or Combination of Education and Experience) for a professional engineer.
Education: Professional Engineering Degree. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: Lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET;
OR
Include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics:
Statistics, dynamics;
Strength of materials (stress-strain relationships);
Fluid mechanics, hydraulics;
Thermodynamics; e. electrical fields and circuits;
Nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties);
Any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
Specified academic courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in the basic requirement for education. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in the education requirement above.
Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least (1) year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in providing project management of a health care facility construction activities, preparing engineering cost estimates to achieve the goals of the master plan, negotiating contract specifications with organizational elements of agency and contractors, reviewing and analyzing submission of concepts, preliminary working drawings and specifications prepared by contracted architect/engineers for compliance with agency standards, policies, goals, and providing technical assistance as a subject matter expert within the qualifying discipline i.e. civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
OR
Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) or three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education in a major directly related to the position.
OR
Possess a combination of education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
