The incumbent serves as the Chief of Emergency Medicine, with full responsibility for supervision, planning, development, organization, integration, and evaluation of emergency services at Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF). The incumbent is a member of the medical staff and provides diagnostic and therapeutic services in his/her specialty.
Duties
Works directly with the Clinical Director, Assistant Clinical Director, and Surgical Services Supervisory Nurse, and other key members of administration to fully plan and implement policies and procedures, performance improvement activities and patient care services specific to surgical services.
Exercises overall supervisory responsibility for the management and direction of surgical services.
Responsible for the diagnosis, care and treatment of inpatients, ambulatory care patients, and emergency cases in the capacity of a staff physician.
Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations.
Gives patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services to patients under his/her care.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link); Association of American Medical Colleges (external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.
An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) (external link).
A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) (external link).
A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
Additional Requirements for Grades GS-15
GS-15: 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training within the specialty area of Emergency Medicine. (e.g., a senior specialist with several years of experience beyond residency training) that demonstrates the ability to provide patient care of an extremely difficult and responsible level.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below:
a. Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training.
b. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected with set limits of cost and time.
c. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
d. Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work.
e. Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations.
f. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - Board Certification: Applicants applying in a specialty must meet one of the following as an approved agency-wide selective factor. This becomes part of the minimum requirements to qualify for the position.
Board Certified in the Specialty to which the applicant is applying or
Active Registrant of the Board in the Specialty to which the applicant is applying
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
